    Dear The New Zealand Company,
I am writing to you to apply for a passage on one of the boats to New Zealand.

I am a very hard worker and try hard to earn lots of money but I was recently no longer needed because my work had new machines to take my place.I have recently also had a check-up at the doctors and they told me I was in good shape so if I come on board I will not be carrying any bugs.I am not old and not too young either.I am wanting to come to New Zealand so I can start a new life because so far HORRIBLE things have happened to me I've lost my job and now my grandmother died, nor am i married I don't know where my parents are either so I am hoping to come along to New Zealand so I can start again.Of coarse i am not mean or rude either.
So please accept me to become one of the passangers to New Zealand.

    Yours Sincerely

    Ben Haenraets.

    Dear the New Zealand Company
My name is Elizabeth Mc Beth. I have 2 children and a husband. My husband and I are both out of a job as my husband just recently got laid off of his farming job and I am a stay at home mum for my children have no school to attend. My husband and I are both hard workers. We live on the street as we used to live on the farm but we were forced to move away within a week. My family would love to attend the ship to New Zealand. We are a loving family looking for a new start. My husband still has a lot of tools from the farming industry. We all have clothes and enough food to start a new life in New Zealand. We would love to move to New Zealand.
    Yours sincerely
    The Mc Beth family.

Dear Directors of the New Zealand Company

Hi I’m Ben and I want to go to New Edinburgh because I want a new life.

I am a hardworking and skilled agricultural mechanic and I’m 25 years old. I’ve got all the tools I need for my job, plus enough money to buy tools in New Edinburgh if I need to. I also worked on farm as a labourer, so if I can’t get a job as a agricultural mechanic I can work on farms there.

I have a testimonial from my Employer Tony McDonald and my Doctor Craig Wilson.

I have enough money for my passage and to support myself until I get a job. I have had all my vaccinations, and have never had any mental problems.

I have never been in trouble with the law.

I will bring my food, bedding and more necessary equipment to go on the ship. I can make my own way to the port as I live near the port. I also have extra food rations which I can bring with me.

    Yours sincerely

    Dear Sir,
I am writing to you to apply for assisted passage aboard the Philip Lang, departing for New Zealand on the 4th September.
By way of introduction, my name is Nathan Charles Beesley and by trade I am an Agricultural Mechanic and have been so for some 10 years since completing my apprenticeship with Mr Edmund Lonsdale of Poplars Farm.
I have recently married Miss Elsie Partradge and we wish to start our married lives together and hopefully raise a family in New Zealand.
In order to prove my suitability, I have enclosed testimonials from:

    1. Mr Edmund Lonsdale, as to my qualifications and that I am a dependable and hard working.

    2. Rev. Joseph Smith who will vouch for my moral character.
    3. Dr. Arthur Bassett, who will confirm that I am of sound mind and body and have been vaccinated against smallpox.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

    Yours faithfully,

    Mr Nathan Charles Beesley.

    Dear Thomas Cudbert Harington,

My name is Sean McCaw; I would like to get a passage to New Zealand for me, my wife, Elizabeth McCaw nee Cameron, my two children, Henry, who is 12 and Emily who is 11. I am 34 and Elizabeth is 32.
We have looking for a job ever since the building company I used to work at closed down due to the rising costs of materials we used. I am very skilled at building, calculating and I am reasonably strong. My old boss said I was very good at my job and was one of his best workers. As proof, he has stamped the top of this letter with his stamp.
My family and I have all been immunized against smallpox. I have all the tools that I need for building. We are able to supply all our clothing, bedding, extra food and other stuff that you require us to bring. We are able to make our way down to the docks at Thames seeing that we live reasonably close.
I hope you read this carefully and decide to include me.

    Yours sincerely,

    Sean McCaw

    Dear Sir,

Please let me board one of your ships to the New Zealand colony. Here in England it is very, very, very hard to get a job. My husband, John, is a skilled locksmith and very good at working with metal, but work is so hard to find. I work as a maid and I am a hard worker. My husband and I and our two children would work hard to make a success of our life in New Zealand and make our contribution to the great British Empire.

    Yours faithfully,

    Sarah Squire

    Dear New Zealand company

Hello my name is Natasha Mcnab I am a young scottish girl at the age of 19. I have left home and I would like to come over to New Zealand to start a bakery in Dunedin which would be named after my home town. My old job was in a bakery making bread and fancy cakes. My career as a assistant baker came to a sudden halt when the bakery burnt down. I was left with no money although I was already earing barely enough to feed me and light my house (candles are very pricy these days). I am fit and strong with good health. My old boss said that I was one of the most hard working workers and that he was very impressed with my calclating skills. I have had a injection for small pox so I will not be carrying any dieases onto the ship. I will take all my own belongings with me onto the ship.I hope you choose to let me come onto the ship to start a new life in New Zealand.

    Yours sincerely Natasha Mcnab

    Dear The New Zealand Company.

My name is Angus MacBeth and I want to go to New Zealand so I can start a new life.

I was a Mechanist for two years and working very hard until our company-The Workers closed down in 1838 ever since then me and my wife and 2 children have all been moping and cleaning up other houses in order to make money and are very hardworking at doing this so we was hoping that you would let as in by cleaning up after the rooms and also if something goes wrong I could fix it as long as its not that big due to my old job at The Workers. My wife is named Elizabeth MacBeth and is 43 just like me. We have two twins named William and Edmund MacBeth, which are 11 years old. We all have had an injection for small pox and I am a good chap who loves being around people just like my wife and children.
